Read both lines instead of replacing one
Zero added sugars does not mean zero total sugars. The selected source panels show 14g total sugars for Sunsweet’s 40g basis,5g for Brothers’ shown 7.5g bag, and 20g for Bare’s 28g basis, each alongside 0g added sugars. These are declared label values, not laboratory tests performed by this site. Keep the denominator with each number.
Use the definition that matches the field
FDA distinguishes naturally present sugars included in total sugars from sugars added during processing. A no-added-sugar claim therefore answers a different question from the total-sugar line. It also does not make a food calorie-free. Bare explicitly retains a not-low-calorie qualifier with its no-added-sugar statement; the site does not drop that condition.
Do not compare unequal servings as a health score
The three selected portion sizes are different. Saying the Brothers panel has 5g while Bare has 20g does not by itself establish that equal amounts or entire purchased packages have that relationship. The outer Brothers mass conflict further limits a whole-package comparison. No personal dietary permission is inferred from any of the figures.
Treat an unlisted value as unknown
If a new or older product panel does not establish added sugars for the exact recipe, do not infer a zero solely from a fruit picture, “natural” wording or lack of a sugar ingredient in a short marketing summary. Read the complete current ingredients and Nutrition Facts. A change in the page’s design is not proof that its formula or label fields stayed identical.
Ask the purchase question precisely
A buyer may require an exact product with a declared 0g-added-sugars field. That is a verifiable label criterion. It remains different from wanting a product with no total sugar, no additives, one ingredient or suitability for a medical condition. Write those conditions separately so a filter result cannot silently answer a question it never tested.
An ingredient filter and a nutrient field can disagree with expectations
A buyer might expect a food made only from fruit to show zero sugars. The selected strawberry panel demonstrates why that expectation is misplaced: its listed ingredient is strawberries and it still declares5g total sugars for the shown bag. Added0is a separate field. The correct shopping response is to retain both values, not edit the total to zero or label the product unsuitable for a medical condition. Personal restrictions need their own clinical context beyond this record.
